Marex has appointed Matt Johnson as head of business development for ETF Capital Markets, EMEA.

Based in London, and as part of the Marex prime services team, Johnson will focus on developing relationships with exchange traded fund (ETF) and other exchange traded product (ETP) issuers, asset managers, and institutional market participants across EMEA.

Further, he will help clients access Marex's ETF capabilities while supporting the firm's broader international growth strategy.

Conor Foley, global head of business development, ETF Capital Markets, Marex, says: “We've built significant momentum in our ETF business in the US, establishing ourselves as a trusted partner to ETF issuers through innovative solutions and deep market expertise.

“As we continue to see growing opportunities internationally, expanding our capabilities across EMEA is a natural next step. Matt's appointment is an important milestone in that journey.

“His experience across ETF capital markets, derivatives, and institutional markets makes him exceptionally well placed to help us build on that success and support clients across the EMEA region.”

Bringing over 30 years of experience to the role, within institutional markets, derivatives, and ETFs, he has held senior leadership positions at Invesco, Source ETF, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, ETF Securities, Deutsche Bank, Morgan Stanley, and J.P. Morgan.

Most recently, he was positioned at Quantifeed, a digital wealth management technology company, where he was commercial and business development lead, EMEA, and a director of the firm's UK entity, ALPIMA.

In these roles, he advised financial technology businesses, bringing together expertise across product development, capital markets, and business growth.

Johnson’s appointment at Marex builds on the momentum of the firm’s ETF Capital Markets business in the US, and as investor demand for ETFs and other ETPs continues to grow globally, Marex says it is investing in expanding these capabilities across Europe and other international markets.

Massimo Labella, co-head of International Prime Brokerage and Outsourced Trading, Marex, comments: “Matt brings exceptional experience across ETF capital markets, institutional sales, and business development, alongside an extensive network built over more than three decades in financial markets.

“As demand for ETF solutions continues to grow across Europe, his experience will be invaluable as we expand our presence across EMEA and continue building relationships with issuers and institutional clients.”

Johnson will work closely with colleagues across Marex's global ETF Capital Markets team to identify new opportunities, support product innovation, and strengthen relationships with issuers and market participants throughout the region.

Marex supports issuers from new launches to complex strategies, with integrated services that span structuring, funding, execution, clearing, custody, and custom exposure management.

Commenting on his appointment, Johnson says: “The team has built an impressive platform in the US and there is a significant opportunity to build on that success internationally.

“ETF adoption continues to accelerate, particularly as investors seek more efficient, transparent, and innovative investment solutions.”
